Arrival
The camera arrived today - the batteries are charging...
Spent the morning spending money at a nursery... the plant selling type... I bought a Cherry Blossom tree...
I'm now addicted to series one of The West Wing.
I missed seeing little John over the weekend, because he's been exposed to the dreaded Chickenpox - I've never had it and really, it's too late now.
Want to see Nicole Holofcener's Friends with Money.

Jumping up and down
I'm excited now - received an unexpected email saying the camera has been dispatched already!

My teeth hurt
Any connection with my teeth hurts. Imagine a wire wrapped around a tooth and someone pulling it, then multiply the feeling - gush, I hear you saying, that sounds rather like a form of torture, not something you'd pay for...
Well as consolation and to take my mind off it, I've placed the order for the camera. However, the first place I tried although their website said they had some, they had sold out, they recommended two other places, but neither of them had any left either. As I can't phone the place I've ordered it from, I'm trying not to get too excited until it's dispatched after the weekend, until then I'm not going to be convinced they actually have one in stock.
I made the mistake of taking a look at some comments about it and they range from fantastic to every picture comes out blurry. I should learn not to read these things.

Cannes
According to Late Review Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette sounds like it might be good, despite the French press booing at the Cannes screening.

Gappy future
I had my Ortho appointment today, I'd been looking forward to it in an odd sort of I want to get this thing moving way. He changed both wires. I now have much thicker square wires, apparently square wires can't slip. They are supposed to open my mouth out and I can expect to get some gaps, in fact my two front teeth, which have always been packed tight together already have a gap between them, in 5 hours! And I don't have to go back for three months… All rather sore right now, although I did manage to eat.
I have also decided finally on a digital camera, which has been such a long saga. I went to have a look at the new model I thought I was going to get, luckily I was in Selfridges and their photo department is in the basement. When I tested the camera it needed the flash and seemed very slow. They had one of the camera's I was going to get before and I compared the two and the old model is so much better - seems to be faster and feels much more comfortable to hold - Judy I've finally decided for sure, just in time I hope.

Blogiversary
Frizz is a year and one day old. I've enjoyed the blogging thing. It's now the longest diary of any sort I've kept. It's been a great place to rant, remember and document. It's been interesting to see what grabs attention, braces being by far the most popular recently. It's made me think about some of the things I've done, instead of just saying, next. It's reminded me to take photographs. I've even learnt a bit of html and updated my geek gene. It's introduced me to other blog's, which I've enjoyed reading and which have informed me about life, art, politics and OK some gossip too. And it's meant I've been a little bit 'out there', which has been a big deal and feels so good. So a very big thank you to those who are still reading and for all the encouraging words.

Thank U
A big thank you to those who came out yesterday. It was a shame about the sky, too cloudy to see Jupiter - another time perhaps, but it was lovely company, just what was needed.

Memories
Tuesday, Sandy to the vet with constipation and a couple of what thankfully turned out to be only fatty cysts. The poor thing hated being there, except there is a weighing machine, which she obediently stepped onto and stayed for enough time to get a reading. It was like she knew what to do and then I remembered that my Dad used to take her in just to weigh her. It was a bittersweet moment.

Horrible trousers?
A friend sent me this after a visit to a nursing home last week:
One woman I spoke to, who was about ninety, asked me if I was a man or a woman. When I replied a woman, she wanted to know why I wear such horrible trousers. I said they were comfortable and she replied, well it's easy getting them down, but getting them back up is difficult.

Torturevision
Ok so I'm home, which is bad, because I should be in Hampstead listening to E singing, which would be so much better, but I'm right across town and feeling so lazy, I'm skipping everything.
Torturevision, otherwise known as the Eurovision Song Contest - the most embarrassing European event in history, it's so bad you have to wonder if they actually sell tickets or give them away. Our entry sounds like something created by the cast of Grange Hill [a classic BBC children's TV series set in a school]. Although I've missed a few songs, I think Lithuania should win having the gall to call their song 'We are the Winners of Eurovision' with the line "vote for the winners", no subtlety then, but they made us laugh. Terry of course is in fine form.
Well at least I missed Big Brother...

Memory overload
Lets get rid of all the unnecessary passwords, so says Wendy Grossman writing in the Guardian. That would be great, I've reached the point where if I get asked for a password, I think twice about whether I really need to access the site and often as not I decide that it's not worth the trouble.

German Archive
The Arolsen Red Cross archive in Germany is to be opened to researchers. The archive which includes over 17 million records of concentration camp inmates and slave laborers is still used by the Red Cross, last year they received 150,000 requests for information from families still searching for missing relatives. Shame
Blair on deporting convicted immigrants:
“Those people, in my view, should be deported irrespective of any claim that they have that the country to which they are going back may not be safe.”I'm watching the news and... by 2008 all are movements are going to be tracked on a database... it felt for a split second like I was watching an episode of Dr. Who.

A good read
Spotted on the way home yesterday - a woman reading a Water Shortage Survey. Saw Phaedra at the Donmar with T - disappointing, both the play and the acting (maybe they were having an off night). T offered me her copy of The Human Stain which she'd just finished, I was happy to make her journey home a little lighter. I started it on the way, but it means I'm now reading two books set on American campuses, I started Zadie Smith's On Beauty at the weekend.

What did I say...
It must have been the apple the other day cos it happened again... there I was carefully chomping away when something felt very wrong. I rushed upstairs to check in the mirror and the wire looked rather wonky and very bent. Luckily even though it looked worse than last time I managed, with much relief, to flip it back - I've learnt my lesson, no more apples for me. If an archwire can get a weakness, mine seems to have one.
I've put a new heading in the sidebar for topics... the first being, but of course, braces. It takes you to a Blogger search result, at the moment it's the only way I can think of doing it - alternative suggestions welcome.

Braces, what again? Again?
I thought it was about time for a braces update – Bruce especially for you!
Since I last enlightened you I've had a wire pop out – I don't know how this happened, but I've been assured by both the Ortho and his assistant that it won't happen again once I move onto the next wire – I'm not sure whether I should be pleased or worried, does thicker wire equal pain? It took the Ortho all of 2 seconds to 'pop' it back – it's all in the knowing how.
Yesterday the same bit of wire became convex (from my mouths point of view) - pulling all my teeth the wrong way - I thought I had overdone it munching on an apple (cut up small, I couldn't even think of biting into a whole one). This time I managed on my own to flip it back, which was a relief, because it was starting to get very painful, amazing how much and how quickly it changed the pressure.
On the subject of bite turbos – I seem to have eaten off all the stuff he put on to build them up – so am back to square one, being careful not to bite off the brackets. Things are changing though and in certain positions my teeth finally meet. My stomach is happy - less indigestion.
Still lisping, I don't think it's something I'm going to get used to, but otherwise all fine.
Wire change, here's hoping, in a couple of weeks… Bruce I promise, no more braces talk until then… unless something drastic happens.

Blog stuff
Well, I finally forked out for Ecto... it does seem to do the job. Except when it puts paragraphs where you don't want them - but at the mo it's not doing it, so I'll say no more.

Enlightenment
If they [the public] saw what we [the journalists] saw then they would never support a war ever again, that's why it's important for governments that we don't show everything...A rough quote from Channel 4's Iraq: The Hidden Story by Jon Snow, which I'm only half watching, because that's enough. There doesn't seem to be any further info on Channel 4's site, but it's basically the war from the journalist's perspective.

Goodbye to Mouse No 3
I buried mouse no 3 at the bottom of the garden. I was on my own, as Sandy seemed unprepared to make the journey across the wet lawn. It was a simple affair I put a stone down as a marker and said a few words, wishing that it's protons, neutrons and electrons scattered around the world to have many adventures and if any of them ended up in another mouse, that there was an abundance of cheese to eat.

The last of blue
If you are a fan of blue Smarties you better stock up as Nestle have agreed to stop using artificial colouring and apparently there is no natural alternative for the blue colour - I always thought that blue was a step too far into the artificial.

News up
Patrica Rashbrook is having a baby at 63, just imagine running around after a seven year old in your seventies.
Which? is saying that hybrid's aren't all they're cracked up to be although the Prius seems to stand up to the test. I'm checking out diesel - is it clean or not?
Prescott gets to keep his grace and favour homes [ that's the big house in the country] even though Ruth Kelly is taking over the work.
The UN can't agree on what to do with Iran.
Nicole Richie agree's she's too thin in Vanity Fair - what's with VF these days - they seem to have a thing for anorexia-ish young girls. Sorry that's not really news.

Mouse No 3
We caught another mouse, but when I opened the trap the poor thing didn't look very good. I did my best, I tried to give it some water and some cheese. I watched it taking it's last breathes, it made what was possibly an attempt to escape, but just ended up on it's back and died. It was very sad.
