Free bell

It's been stressful using the tube this week –I've been struck by my need for reassuring smiles from fellow passengers and a sense that the calm could be broken at any moment. I can't quite get my head around the fact that they were suicide bombers; I don’t want to think about them having set a precedent.

On a much lighter note I have been rushing around trying to get everything for going away. Finally bought a dress for Tuesday, lucked out as by the time I managed to buy the one I wanted, it had gone into the sale.

Crossed the footbridge at Waterloo this evening – decided to use the lift and didn't realise the bridge was closed for filming. Turned out they were shooting Anthony Minghella's new film Breaking & Entering. I walked past Juliette Binoche, but didn't see Jude Law who's also supposed to be in it. Made me a bit nostalgic.

Thank you to the kind guy at the cycle shop you gave me a free bell - mine fell off cycling down Piccadilly...

PS I'm finally going to get that haircut!

Bombs

Have been sitting in front of the TV like a zombie. What a terrible day. Makes me feel very passionate about this city….

Sporting mad

Hey we won – Olympics 2012 here we come! It’s always great to win something and I’m surprisingly excited… just not 100% convinced about the consequences…

Plastic - Why?

As you can see I've gone 'Make Poverty History' mad. I've even succumbed to the wristband, but why couldn't they have made it in something more environmentally friendly than plastic?

Persistence can pay off

I needed to leave my bike at Vauxhall today, but couldn't find any bike stands. Asked a guy at the bus station, but he was new so didn't know. Asked another one in the booth who gave me a story about being too close to MI5, bombs and the IRA… Asked a policeman who also didn't know, but advised me to find a place where there were no bikes with missing wheels…. Finally went back to the train station (across the road) and was told that bike stands were just around the corner and just across the road from all the people I had been asking…ps bike still has both wheels.

Strawberries and Cream

Last Monday – went to Wimbledon with a couple of friends. We were in a very civilized queue for an hour and a half. Once inside the atmosphere was as good as always. I managed to get handed a couple of No. 1 Court tickets within a few minutes of entering. One of the people I was with has more chutzpah than me and managed to get us on to Centre Court without tickets at all. Unfortunately, at the first change of ends we got kicked out. We split up, two of us went off to No. 1 Court to watch a very fast game of mixed doubles with four players I'd never heard of, I'm a little bit out of it when it comes to tennis these days. Whilst chutzpah chick managed to get back on to Centre Court, still with no ticket, for the rest of the match….
