4 x 4 (urban SUV)

So a friend still wants to buy a 4 x 4 and I understand the appeal - drive around in a big tank and feel safe, but lets face it, the love affair with 4 x 4's has to be over. Welcome the hybrid. Thandie Newton's made the change. Check out Greenpeace's site. Send a friend an ecard. Send a letter to Ford. Check out what your car's emissions really are. How about a G-Wiz. Lastly, how long do we have to wait until there is a reasonably priced non-business hybrid - come on guys - we want this now!

New home

Originally uploaded by Frizzworld.

The mouse's new home. The first place I was going to let it go turned out to be home to a snake, the first snake I think I've ever seen in the park. When I let the mouse go here, it ran straight into the tree.

Well the trap worked - one scared and wet (it ended up in the sink?) mouse. That's cheese in the box.

Pet world

I tried to take a photo of the mouse, but it's a speedy thing. I've put out two mouse friendly traps - does that count as an oxymoron - they seem rather on the small side to me. It's been a pet day - I tried to give Sandy dog a bath - she saw me take the towels out and was off in the other direction straight down the stairs as fast as the mouse and I couldn't get her back up again. And yes we did end up at Pet World for the traps, a bone, some food and a quick hello to the rabbits.

Little friends

Fast food

I missed getting the Guardian on Saturday, but a friend was telling me there was a free copy of Fast Food Nation and also a couple of large adds by McDonald's - talk about mixed messages. The golden arches have just announced a super big mac to celebrate the World Cup just to add to the irony.

It's a miracle

I woke up to feel two of my back teeth meeting for the first time in three weeks. I thought I'd broken a bracket at first, but no it seems that while I slept my bite rather drastically changed. No pain doesn't have to mean no gain.

Small friends

Little R (three and three quarters) invited me for a sleepover, apparently he had been inviting various friends for sleepovers all weekend - only their combined ages appear to be less than half mine - should I take something from this?

Uber-lisp

Argh! He made the bite turbos bigger (Quote; "I've never had to do this before").... so much for losing the lisp. Now I'm really afraid to open my mouth. Good news though, I think I'm no longer hitting the braces, you'd think. As a consolation I've just splashed out on some business card making software... I realised with all my meetings the other week it was a bit silly not having a card. My card can speak for me - so cheesy.

Extended holidays

I have a friend, hi V, who says she has been skiing a total of 35 days this year – which makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong?

I went on a school ski trip, which the V in question might well remember... I spent much of the time being sick and the rest being petrified, with a tiny bit of time being thrilled and somehow I've not been skiing since.

I'm now obsessed with planning regulations... as brother number two is shortly to find out.

Dancing to the tune

I went to a lovely Passover Seder, a Bulgarian version - thank you L and I'm going on an Easter hunt and I just want to get all soppy and say how wonderful it is to live in a country where despite the awful planning laws (I couldn't resist) and the threat to our civil rights - it's still possible to partake in whatever festivals you feel like. And in that spirit go and join the dancing [via].

Lisp

Well, no reprieve from the lisp as the Ortho was away all last week, I'm there on Tuesday. I'm actually getting used to the bite turbos, but they are still too high, the only time they are useful is at night when I put wax underneath them to help prevent me from accidentally biting a bracket off in my sleep, although the fear of doing exactly that is not conducive to a good nights sleep and as a result I'm kinda tired. The braces themselves haven't been hurting at all, and working on the no pain, no gain theory, I'm wondering if anything is going on in there.

PS. the baby food, with a bit of seasoning, was actually OK. My new favorite meal is backed potato with mashed up avocado and yogurt – honestly it tastes good and no chewing needed.

Greed

I'm feeling rather disenchanted with the world. Our neighbours had already put in an appeal – knowing something we didn't? A touch of what it must be like to live in a tin pot state. The way the planning process works is that the applicant, otherwise known as the developer, even if they loose have a right to appeal to the Secretary of State, the opposing side on the other hand has no right to appeal – so it's a stacked pack of cards and I thought I lived in the civilized world – silly me, yet again. Not only that, but there is no end to the madness as they can keep putting in applications and appealing until the cows come home. Me think's the law was devised by a rather shrewd developer, but if someone would like to tell me otherwise I'm willing to listen.

Two down

We won round two - the councilors again voted against our neighbor's application. They were simply brilliant bringing up all the main issues. Silly me as we were walking out I made eye contact with the losing side and got a bit of a threat... you live and learn or maybe not that makes the estate agent and the architect now. You know all those 'developer' TV programmes have really lost all their innocence.

blah blah blah

Stream of consciousness post. I finished the AT course - I'd really recommend it. I'm still lisping away, even managed to chair a meeting this evening, although I did get asked to repeat things rather more often than usual. Hi Bruce. Having a The West Wing overload. Love CJ, I want to be her when I grow up. Lots of dog walking as Simon is away - Konnichi wa, if you read this. Immigrants being beaten up in Russia. Saw Inside Man and am totally bemused - Spike Lee and the Holocaust? Sore gums and not being able to chew leads to indigestion. Loving the warmer weather. Happy holidays. Iran joining the nuclear club. Big council meeting tomorrow - very stressful.

Fast paced addiction

Have been a bit quiet this week, a break from the previous week was needed and what can I say anything that doesn't involve The West Wing has drawn the short straw, I am having an OCD thing happening. The trouble is I'm watching it so quickly that I'm losing the nuances, which are so brilliant, I'm telling myself it's the perfect excuse to watch them all over after I finish.

Ever wanted to know about all the obscure references, especially good if you're not American.

I've reached Season Six, Martin Sheen with MS, I'm not sure I can handle it.

No bite

I rang the Ortho's office first thing and they told me to hang in there, but I really don't like having something stuck in my mouth that's not really doing anything… I lisped through AT and now I'm going to lisp through science class. I talk and I sound so strange to myself that it completely puts me off and I forget what I’m saying. I know it will get better, it would just be easier if the bite turbos were actually working.

I bought baby food today; organic vegetables with Quinoa and Apple and Quince… I'll let you know what they taste like... this is a sorry state of affairs.

The West Wing; two episodes in a row is fine, three is too much.

Schools out

After all the rushing, it's time for a lazy day.

A phone call from a friend I haven't spoken to in, like a year, I merrily lisped away. It's four O'clock and I'm not dressed yet. I've watched the first two episodes of series five of The West Wing (hell it's good), I've killed a moth, I know, I wasn't going to. The stoppers [bite turbos] on the back of my teeth now aren’t stopping anything, just being annoying and my front teeth are hitting the lower braces, I don't know whether to call my Ortho now or see if by tomorrow it's ok again… I managed to eat; banana, soup, and yogurt, but my lower teeth are sore, like someone has been trying to knock them out with a hammer.

I'm off to the supermarket in search of soft food. Suggestions welcome.
