Academia

Have spent the day amongst academia. Met some very interesting people. Lots on DPs (displaced persons), discovered that there's not that much research that's been done yet. So there was me thinking, help I can't find the info I need and it doesn't exist.

Got to talking about Etty Hillesum, who was this amazing young Jewish woman, who wrote a diary about her experiences of being a refugee in Holland in the early 1940's. The older version of Anne Frank, she was also murdered in the camps. In the diary she's trying to deal with all the everyday issues of being a young single woman, from work to relationships, hormones and periods, as well as trying to find a way of making sense of what is happening in Europe, to herself, her friends and family.

An Interrupted Life: The Diaries of Etty Hillesum 1941-43
